The Rant List

Soon this page will be for everyone to rant and rave about what bothers them the most.

Things I have learned along the way…a continuing list

I am sure everyone has heard of “Alice’s Restaurant”, if you have not, I can’t help you and it has nothing to do with my mother. If you have, well this is my version of the story.

In no special order and a continuing list.

1.       All dogs may not be “man’s best friend”, but they do follow you from room to room

2.      Cats are smarter than dogs

3.      No matter what language that you speak, laughter is all the same

4.      Unfortunately, pain and anguish apply to the statement above as well

5.      Too many people associate their jobs or career with what they view as success

6.      Children are not born to judge others, they are taught it

7.      Other than being easy to make a sandwich, the greatness about “sliced bread” is overrated

8.     Tearing apart good bread is much more fun

10.  Every creature serves some sort of purpose

11.   Marshmallow is a fun word

12.  Phlegm is not

13.  Do animals (other than ones in labs) get cancer in the wild?

14.  How did “9 minutes” get to be the universal “snooze” period of time?

15.   How come I am always in a long line only to be the only one standing in it when I reach the cashier?

Waiting

Waiting…

Day 28 Jan 30th

Early Sunday morning on the last day of January 2010. I intended for my experiment to last a total of 31 days total and since it started a few days into the month, the project will continue into February.

The idea was to try to eliminate some of the useless information passed on by the 24 hour newsreel and such. When starting on this experiment, I felt that an absence of current events in my daily routine might prove me ignorant, but instead it has done the opposite. The enrichment gained from lack of too much information, is incredible. As with times of old, any real news eventually finds its way to you. I am a bit curious about the status of the Health Care plan, but if  politics are true to their recent course, it is still tied up in the bureaucratic process.

The irony in my trial so far is that the only type of news that I really miss is the kind found on The John Stewart Show and Colbert Report due to the fact that they contain more knowledgeable information than the so-called professional news circuit.

My project will be wrapping up on Wednesday Feb 3. I am happy that I have tried it. It will definitely have an impact on the news that I watch in the future.

Day 27 Jan 30th

More or less the same. No Media…

I have a 1 Year Old!

Hannah Alexandra Sala at 20 Minutes Old

If you asked me a few years ago if I wanted children, I probably answered no, maybe, I don’t know. I liked the idea of children, but I was just so unsure of where life was going and I was mainly scared that a child might, for lack of a better word, hold me back. From what, I do not know. I really think that my answer was just a cop-out and that the underlying truth was that I was afraid to take on any “REAL” responsibility. Most decisions in life you can choose to walk away from if they are not going your way including careers, relationships, debt and more. Children are a completely different story.

I have made some poor decisions in my life like everyone else, but most of them will not have a major impact years from now. Good and bad choices are all part of the journey of living and learning.  Having a child is an extremely important decision to make because they are there for the long haul. You never get to look back and you never want to. As soon as you have a child of your own, you realize that it was one of the greatest things to have ever happened to you. Period. Children enrich you in  many ways both big and small. Hannah makes me a much more responsible person, yet at the same time, she allows me be that wide-eyed kid again (That wasn’t too hard). It has been years since I walked in the toy aisles (this doesn’t count my 3 years as the toy dept head of the now defunct Service Merchandise Co.) in search of fun things to bring home.

Hannah Alexandra Sala Jan. 2010

Hannah is one years old today. Before her birth, I did not have a family of my own. I had a loving family that I am part of, but not one that I created. Today, I have both and it is amazing. Hannah has made our immediate family a bit larger and she brings enjoyment to all of those in it.  It will be nice to enjoy Hannah’s birthday as just a family event. When she is older, she will not remember her first birthday, so we do not find it necessary to throw a grand party for her. She does not understand it yet and she will not for the next few birthdays, but we do. When you have children, their birthdays become your own as well. It is a wonderful thing.

Happy First Birthday Darling!

Day 25 January 28th

I am almost there. It has been a relatively easy journey so far. One thing I have learned from my test period is that there are so many things around you that you don’t really need. We become accustomed to having so many unnecessary distractions in our lives that we sometimes miss the real things. I have five or so more days to go and I will finish my personal project up without any real obstacles. As stated, I have logged on to Facebook to check the party invite status and yes, when there, I did glance at what others are doing/saying , but I notice that most of it is the same thing people where saying 30 days ago.

Day 23 Jan 26th

I think that after this test month, I will continue to monitor my TV/internet intake. I have still been wasting a lot of time, but not nearly as much as before. I think that I have even read about one book per week during my trial run and that alone is worth it.

Day 21 January 24th

Same same. Although friends informed me that a supreme court ruling has changed things for the next 30 years. Must be more residuals  from the Bush administration
